One thing has been crystal clear in the motorcycle market for the past couple of years: European companies are pushing the electronic envelope and delivering features that the Japanese have been reluctant to include. Two market segments in particular have benefited greatly from this progress, sportbikes and adventure-touring machines. Advanced traction control (enabled by ride-by-wire throttle control) and the latest generation ABS has made these bikes significantly better than models that were released just a couple years ago. And while Triumph has been a player in this arena, BMW and KTM have pushed the boundaries more than any of the others.
But for 2015, Triumph’s four-model line of Tiger 800s appear to have made up some serious ground on its Austrian and German competition. Triumph will offer a pair of cast-wheel, road-oriented models called the 800 XR and a higher-end offering called the 800 XRx. The more off-highway friendly (wire-spoke wheels) XC will also be available in a more-feature packed XCx model.
